BlokhedJelli -Updated Dialogue Box [DevLog#9]


Happy Thursday folks!

This week I worked on changing the dialogue system.  I was originally using the Dialogic addon to handle the dialogue system but after getting feedback about players being trapped in dialogue circles, I decided to make a simple system from scratch. Now this isn't to bag on Dialogic; I think it's great.  It's just that Dialogic is best suited for extensive dialog systems for visual novels or games that need robust dialog systems.  BlokhedJelli doesn't need anything like that but if you are interested in a plug-and-play, very detailed dialog system ( how many times have I used that phrase😆) then you should give it a try!

On to the cool part:
The 🎆NEW🎆 Dialog Box!

First I made a pretty cool looking box in Aseprite

Then I decided a simple shape was a better choice

After some tedious coding and testing, I got the dialog box working

But the name text needed some flair.

Okay cool!

But how will the player know when the sentence is finished?
Next line indicator!


Now its looking like a right and proper text box.
Up until this point the player would just have to button mash to get out of long-winded NPC chats, just to end up in this situation🔽

I heard you guys loud and clear! 
And added a function that skips the message after holding the button for 1-2 seconds!

And there you have it!  An updated Text Box and Dialog System💬
